Are you Addicted to Safety?

Are you Addicted to safety?

Most people are. They spend their lives organizing, planning and making the almost imperceptible moves to maintain their comfort and their safety. Do you do that? Many times I do. It's how I was raised... "Be safe", "don't get hurt" "Be careful Dave" .... the mass attitude is one of remaining the same .... at all costs!

I call it herd mentality. That works if you want the same results as the masses. Not me.

Now, I'm not saying to go play in the freeway or close your eyes landing an airplane(I never did.... once or twice it may have looked like I did... that's another story!) But, notice how most people play and then notice how "happy" they are in their lives. Their happiness is relative to their feeling of safety, not to a feeling of accomplishment.

So, how do you move in the direction of happiness in a new accomplishment? The story that keeps coming up for me(and I heard again this morning) is that when we were kids and playing on the monkey bars.... when I was small, I had to swing back and forth to build momentum and to build up my courage, then I HAD to let go of the first bar before I could "have" or attain the next bar!

It works the same way now. But somewhere between us all playing in the play ground and today, we learned, believed and demonstrate "safety only" .....

If you are satisfied with your life. I mean completely satisfied... not just "safe", then there are no more leaps for you.

For the rest of us, guess what.... time to let go and go for it! The fears we feel are only in our heads, and the fear goes away when you take action. The bigger the better, sooner than later, right now!

What if you lived your life from that? Pretty cool life, right?

Decide what you want and simply leap! If you miss the bar(and we all did) just brush yourself off and start playing again! It’s the same thing now! I’ve got some news for you all…. You’re not going to get out of this life alive! You’re not! Live it now.

“So many people tiptoe through life, so carefully, to arrive, safely, at death” -Tony Campolo in his book 'Carpe Diem'

“Life is either a daring adventure or nothing. Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature.” -Helen Keller

Don’t aim for safety, aim for life and living!

Let's roll,
Dave
